Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 18 August 2011

Lord Northcliffe, the former owner of Amalgamated Press, was Sir Geoffrey’s uncle and in the auction to be held at Perkins, George Mawer & Co. there are some intriguing items including signed photographs and documents by Adolf Hitler, Napolean Bonaparte and Queen Anne.

Amongst the collectables to be sold at a Lincolnshire auction in September are an intriguing selection of signed items including a letter from Napoleon Bonaparte, an autographed photograph of Adolf Hitler, and a handwritten letter signed by Queen Anne. There is also a small leather bound volume bearing the signature of Napoleon Bonaparte. These items are amongst the effects of Sir Arthur Geoffrey Annesley Harmsworth, 3rd Baronet, who was born in 1904 and died unmarried in 1980, his baronetcy then becoming extinct. Familiarly known as Sir Geoffrey, he had many associations with the County of Lincolnshire and in particular the Town of Louth and the village of Tealby, and was a great supporter of Lincoln Cathedral and the artists thereof including Peter de Wint and his followers. One of Louth?s most famous residents was Alfred Tennyson (he was a pupil at Louth school in the early 1800s) and included in the auction (Lot 437) is a signed sepia photograph of the great poet. It also bears the inscription, ?I prefer the Dirty Monk to the others of me?, a reference to a comment made by his wife, Emily, comparing his beard to that of a lazy monk.

The letter from Napoleon Bonaparte, one of the greatest military leaders in history and Emperor of France, is handwritten and addressed to the Minister of the Interior (Lot 451). It is dated December 28th 1804, and comes with a separate English translation in a contemporary folder with gold lettering. Also included in the auction (Lot 450) is a small leather bound volume, ?Maxime et Pensees du Prisonnier de Sainte-Helene?: a manuscript bearing the autograph of Napoleon and a backstamp of his St Helene library, dated 1820. Another important historical document (Lot 452) is a letter from Queen Anne, Queen of England from 1702-1714, written in French on 14th November 1712. The photograph of Hitler (Lot 438) depicts the Dictator with Lord Rothermere and was signed by Hitler on the occasion of their meeting on the 7th January 1937. Other military items include (Lot 491) a rare ?Eagle? German WW1 linen helmet badge, as well as a selection of WW1 and WW2 medals, badges and assorted memorabilia (Lots 485/490). Of particular interest amongst Sir Geoffrey?s effects is a red leather box containing the original parchment certificate for Sir John Harmsworth?s baronetcy (Lot 449). It comes with the seal (damaged) of George V, and the original exterior carrying box bearing the label ?Asprey? of Bond Street, London. Further lots include a selection of watercolours, signed prints and engravings, including several with local interest, collections of items relating to artist Peter de Wint and an assortment of watercolours featuring Lincoln Cathedral.

The auction takes place on September 8th 2011 at the Corn Exchange

Chambers, Queen Street, Market Rasen, Lincs. LN8 3EH

Oklahoma City, OK (PRWEB) August 18, 2011

Dr. Marco Paliotta, M.D., has made a lifelong commitment to advancing the field of cardiac surgery. For more than ten years, the doctor has performed heart reconstructive surgeries on both adults and children. Throughout Dr. Paliotta?s life one constant ambition pushed the doctor to achieve medical greatness, and that was being of service to those in need. The greatest attraction towards medicine for Dr. Paliotta rests in the fact that surgery has the ability to cure someone who is suffering, and affords them the opportunity for no further treatment. Dr. Paliotta?s dedication to the medical community was evident when he attended the American Cancer Society?s Oklahoma City Cattle Baron?s Ball.

The highly accomplished doctor has dedicated his life to placing his patients? needs before himself. In accordance with the beliefs of the American Cancer Society, which is committed to defeating the disease, Dr. Paliotta has been an active sponsor for the society. Both Dr. Paliotta and the American Cancer Society provide hope for those in need. The American Cancer society gives hope to those with cancer that as each day passes a cure is that much closer. Similarly, Dr. Paliotta delivers hope to those with heart defects through the form of surgery.

On August 19, 2011, Dr. Paliotta will attend the American Cancer Society?s Oklahoma City Cattle Baron?s Ball. This lifesaving ball benefiting the American Cancer Society offers a fun and festive way to make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. To keep up with the theme of this event, the Cattle Baron?s Ball invites attendee?s to wear blue jeans and Western apparel. The ball features live and silent auctions which help find a cure for the disease. This uplifting and festive ball brought the fight against cancer directly to the Oklahoma community. The spirit and camaraderie of the event made fighting cancer and saving lives an inspiring experience.

Dr. Paliotta joined other business leaders from the Oklahoma area to celebrate the lifesaving work that happens on a daily basis at the American Cancer Society. The generous support of Oklahoma community leaders in the Cattle Baron?s Ball will allow those affected by cancer to see more birthdays. Additionally, participating in such an event helps find cures, and fight back against a disease that has already affected so many.

The charitable doctor has performed surgeries on some of the neediest children. Dr. Paliotta has operated pro bono on third world children in Peru working to correct their heart defects. In addition to donating his services to those in need, Dr. Paliotta also single handedly directed the pediatric heart surgery service at OU Children?s Hospital. Dr. Paliotta completely sacrificed his personal life to support the surgery service at the Oklahoma University Children?s Hospital. ?Being able to successfully operate on neonates to toddlers to children was thrilling and rewarding for me beyond anything else? says Dr. Paliotta. ?To be able to fix a congenital heart defect in the operating room and then manage the patient in Intensive Care Unit until he or she was healed is a significant source of satisfaction?.

About Dr. Marco Paliotta:

Dr. Marco A. Paliotta, M.D, is a highly accomplished surgeon. He completed his cardiac surgery training at the Medical College of Georgia. After finishing his training, Dr. Paliotta accepted a job as an adult cardiac surgeon in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Operating in Portsmouth for four years allowed the doctor to acquire a vast amount of experience in performing coronary bypass, valve operation, and lung surgery procedures. His talents were recognized when he received the title Medical Director of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Oklahoma. In this role, Dr. Paliotta managed to effectively serve the entire state of Oklahoma for congenital heart problems in children. Santa Monica, California (PRWEB) August 19, 2011

Located in Santa Monica, the Premiere Oncology Foundation is a research and treatment center founded in 2004 by Dr. Lee Rosen, a world-renowned researcher and medical oncologist. Rosen sees this as ?a poignant way to honor those who have fought and continue to fight with such courage? and notes ?I am often asked how I cope daily with the lives and treatment of cancer patients and I feel the answer lies in these inspiring stories. It?s now time to share them.?

The vignettes will be uplifting, funny and moving. A sampling of those planning to share their stories include cancer survivor and Emmy award-winning comedy writer and comedian Monica Piper, Julie Carruthers, cancer survivor, motivational speaker and one-legged surfer; and performance artist and three-time cancer survivor Jonna Tamases. The evening?s performances also include a wide range of inspirational music from soul, to opera, jazz and even a knockout choir.

Emmy-award winner and three time Golden Globe nominee Bradley Whitford, known best for his roles on The West Wing and The Mentalist will host the event.

?My grandmother had breast cancer, and I have lost dear friends and relatives to the disease,? Whitford said. ?I know many people who received what seemed like devastating diagnoses at the time, now they are thriving and have been declared cancer free. Cancer won’t be solved in a moment. I don’t want to be an enabler of mindless optimism. But I do want to support the hard work of hope and real progress.?

Cancer survivor and Emmy-award winner Dottie Archibald produces and directs the show. Co-producer and three-time cancer survivor and Rick Pantele encourages the community to get involved. Pantele shares ?Having lost both of my parents to cancer, I see this as an opportunity for those affected by cancer to help make a difference through event sponsorship, by donating to the silent auction and most importantly, attending this not-to-be-missed event.

The gala will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at The Broad Stage in Santa Monica, located at 1310 11th St. Open to the public; the fundraiser will also include a cocktail and dessert reception, art and jewelry boutique, silent auction and live entertainment.

The silent auction will feature one-of-a-kind items including tickets to the 2012 Masters Final Round, Fighter Pilot for a Day, a brand new Lexus jewelry, art and dinner for two at many of the best Santa Monica and West LA eateries.

General Admission tickets cost $ 150 and reserved seating is $ 300. Proceeds from this event will make a difference in the lives of cancer patients through supportive services, integrative medicine, education and oncology research. To purchase tickets and get additional information, visit http://www.truthbetold2011.org or email info@truthbetold2011.org or call 800-595-4849.

Julien?s Auctions, the world?s premier entertainment and celebrity memorabilia auction house will offer a rare glimpse into the life of Hollywood?s most colorful stars, Tony Curtis. The rare Hollywood star whose off-screen character was often more sensational than his on-screen one, lived a life that could be its own movie or television series. Curtis? career spanned six decades with popularity during the 1950s and 1960s enabling him to transpose his good looks into super movie stardom. He acted in over 100 films ranging from light comedy to serious drama and he also made numerous television appearances.

Among Curtis? most memorable films were 1959?s ?Some Like It Hot,? 1960?s ?Spartacus,? 1953?s ?Houdini,? 1952?s ?Son of Ali Baba?, 1957?s ?Sweet Smell of Success,? 1965?s The Great Race and of course 1968?s ?The Boston Strangler,? often noted as his most serious part. He earned an Oscar nomination for the 1958 crime drama ?The Defiant Ones.? The film ?Some Like Hot? in which he acted with icon Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon has been called the funniest film in history by the American Film Institute. He also acted with such greats as Burt Lancaster in ?Sweet Smell of Success? and Cary Grant in ?Operation Petticoat.? Curtis was often noted for his impeccable comedic timing.
